Our Pastor

New Life Baptist Church

Reverend Dr. Yuri Solomon has faithfully served in the pastorate since 1998 and has been proclaiming the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ for more than 40 years. He is the founder of WordTalk Ministries, a para-church ministry dedicated to communicating essential Christian doctrine in a plain, practical, and pertinent way for believers. He is also the author of three books: Just for You, Biblical Masculinity, and To Tithe or Not to Tithe.

Ordained to the Baptist ministry in 1991, Dr. Solomon holds degrees in Theology from Gospel Ministry Outreach Theological Institute and in Biblical Counseling from the College of Biblical Studies–Houston. He has served as an adjunct professor at Inter-Baptist Theological Center, equipping future ministers with sound biblical training.

Respected for his strong commitment to classical Christian orthodoxy, Dr. Solomon has lectured nationally on subjects such as Christian apologetics, the art and science of preaching, spiritual growth, music in Christian worship, and the themes of his published works. He currently holds the Chair of Sermon Preparation for the Baptist Ministers of Houston and Vicinity.

In addition to his teaching and writing, Dr. Solomon serves as Senior Pastor of New Life Baptist Church, Moderator of the Ark of Love District Association, Second Vice President of the Baptist Ministers of Houston and Vicinity, and Host of the Chat with PAK (Pastors Advancing the Kingdom) broadcast. In 2009, he was appointed by Texas Governor Rick Perry to the nine-member Task Force for the Reduction of Child Abuse and Neglect.

Before entering full-time ministry, Dr. Solomon enjoyed a distinguished career in Computer Science. A gifted musician, he has long found joy in playing both the piano and organ. He and his wife, Katrina, reside in Houston, Texas, and are the proud parents of three children: Laura, Ale’ycia, and Yuri II.

Dr. Solomon’s favorite quotation is from John Nelson Darby:
“Now, this life is so precious, manifested as it is in the Person of Jesus... when I, too, turn my eyes to Jesus, when I contemplate all His obedience, His purity, His grace, His tenderness, His patience, His devotedness, His holiness, His love, His entire freedom from all self-seeking, I can say, That is my life.”

-- John Nelson Darby.
